He was born Sept. 30, 1923 in Snyder, Texas to Burton D. Day and Cuba Brooks Day. He moved with his family to Howard County in 1933, graduated from Big Spring High School and received an Associate Degree from Howard College. Later he also attended Texas Tech in Lubbock.John married Dories E. Taylor, Feb. 14, 1947 in Big Spring. They were married 46 yrs at the time of Dories passing on May 5, 1993. They had 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.and one great grandchild.
He attended Butler University for Aviation Cadet Training in Indianapolis, In. where he also played the drums in the Military Band. He went to the Big Spring Bombardier School.John worked at the Webb Air Force Base Fire Department as a crew chief, retiring in 1965. He also owned and operated Day's Pumping Service from 1960 until 1988. He also served with his wife as a Big Spring State Hospital volunteer for the Chalet. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and Dallas & Houston football fan. He loved all animals and his two Rat Terriers were his constant companions.
John Henry Day took his final flight on 5 March 2005 at 11:30p with his family at his side in Big Spring, TX at the age of 81 years of age. He was buried at Trinity Memorial Park, Howard Co. TX.
