Airplane Commander
Follow up on George S. Wilson, Airplane Commander
I finally got out in November of 1946.
In February 1947, I went to work for the Headwaters Area Council, Boy Scouts of America as a Field Scout Executive.
I was recalled to active duty "pipeline" to go to Korea in B-29's. After Randolph crew training, I was sent to Fairchild AFB, Washington for recon training. Somehow or other, there was no requirement for our crew to go to Korea. I ended up sort of bouncing between Fairchild AFB and Rapid City AFB in B-36's finally ending up at Fairchild with a select crew and a spot promotion which they took back when we switched over to B-52's. During this period, I took a commission in the Regular Air Force, but before the Wing was combat ready, I was transferred to Air Force Systems Command in research and development.
I finally retired from the Air Force at Ent AFB at Colorado Springs on June 30, 1969 and came back here to Aurora, MN.
I then went to work for Erie Mining Company, retiring in 1985.
