Following graduation from Navigation school at Ellington Texas, 4 June 1944, Elmer Jones was sent on to Radar school at Boca Raton, Florida.

After completion of his training there, he was assigned to a flight crew as a Navigator in the 315th Bomb Wing at Fairmount, Nebraska. Soon he was reassigned to the 314th Bomb Wing as Radar Operator and ordered to New Mexico. His first memories of the 39th Bomb Group began there at Almagordo. From there it was on to Smoky Hill Army Air Field, Salina, KS where he joined Crew 10.

Upon leaving active duty in March 1946, Jones joined the Air Force Reserve. He also at that time went into business with an uncle as dealers for Federal trucks and Crosley cars.

Having met Aileen Mateer in late 1945, they married on June 28, 1947. There marriage is still alive and well.

In March 1951, Elmer was recalled during Korea Conflict. He returned to civilian life in August 1952.

A son Charles A Jones, was born October 18, 1954. He is presently a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jones returned to the truck business, which had become a GMC dealership. In 1965, he bought out his partner and became sole owner. He continued to operate it successfully until 1987. At that time, GMC dropped its heavy truck line thereby curtailing the operation of the dealership.

Elmer continued his Air Force career in the Reserves until his retirement in 1984 as a Lt Colonel.
